"Pining... for Marble !
Of all the men in all the world, she finds her perfect man - and he's sculpted in solid marble...! Ha! What a hoot! Clever, light-hearted lyrics, sung with playful finese -- a fun little tune in the true style of pop!
Over a straight-ahead drum and bass beat, a simple but infectious acoustic guitar rhythm strums out the lively tempo of this simple arrangement, while a clear, strong female voice croons tongue-in-cheek emotions in a very catchy lyric melody. No instrumental solos in this number, though it offers a smooth little bridge where the drums break, and the voice, bass and guitar carry a sweet moody harmony into the next verse. It works!
With her voice so unique, so strong and vibrant, the singer carries the song through her artfully crafted melodies. I don't think I'd even dare to make a comparison, as this girl has a sound and style all her own. She uses her voice powerfully well, adding charm and warmth, with great range and accuracy. She definitely has the right voice for this unique song!
The lyrics are light-hearted, well, "cute" in a playful, witty way - whimsically intelligent. A wink and a nod of a story, telling about finding her perfect man in the MichaelAngelo statue of David, and the wistful "wouldn't-ya-know-it" sort of theme. But it's the tone and attitude of the singer's voice that makes it all work.
Her voice carries the body of the song with it's strength and fluidity. Even the hook is vocal -- with the chorus arising from a tantalizing, very slight harmony, which sounds more like a keyboard embellishment, except with words... Tricky, tasty! It's so subtle, though - my feeling is that it should come up a bit more in the mix, because you have to be listening for it.
The rhythm stays constant and consistent, only the vocal melody lending life and flavor to the number. The sound is clean, with a good balance in the mix, and presents this performance with the pep and pizzaz the singer puts into it. A brilliantly simple arrangement, easy and quick, and perfect as a great little pop hit!"
